Government announces list of first 20 smart cities under 'Smart Cities Mission'
The list of 20 smart cities out of the 98 shortlisted for the 'Smart Cities Mission' was released on 28/01/2016 Thursday. These 20 cities will be the first to receive funds, thus kick starting the process of developing them into 'smart cities'.

These 20 smart cities will get the funds first to kickstart their development process. With a per city allocation of Rs 100 crore for each of the five years of the mission period, the central assistance to the mission is around Rs 50,000 crore.
