The UK government’s intensified immigration crackdown has drawn criticism for “performative tactics” that reinforce negative narratives about immigrants. According to government data, the UK has conducted its largest deportation flights since 2018, removing over 850 people in four chartered flights. While a country-wise breakdown of recent deportations is yet to be released, past figures show that Indians ranked second among those forcibly returned. In the year ending September 2024, 118 Indian asylum seekers and 203 non-asylum seekers were deported, trailing only Albanians and Romanians, respectively.
